Rockingham, NC – April 11, 2025 — The community of Rockingham, North Carolina, is mourning the sudden passing of Cory Sanford, a hardworking and well-respected mill technician at Domtar Paper Mill. He died on Friday, April 11.

Cory was a proud native and lifelong resident of Rockingham, where he also attended Richmond Senior High School. Known for his strong work ethic and drive, Cory described himself as “a very motivated and hardworking individual,” always eager to gain new experiences and grow both personally and professionally. He spent over a decade across multiple industries, developing a reputation for his dedication, versatility, and leadership.

Most recently, Cory had worked for more than three years as a full-time mill technician at Domtar in Marlboro County, South Carolina. Certified as a winder operator and skilled in papermaking processes, he took great pride in his work and had become an integral part of the team. Before joining Domtar, he served at von Drehle Corporation in Cordova, NC, where he worked his way from roll handler to paper machine back tender, learning each aspect of the job with enthusiasm and precision.

Cory also brought his experience to FCC North Carolina and Hornwood Inc., developing key skills in chemical handling, paper splicing, and resin mixing. He started his professional journey with Bojangles’ Restaurants, Inc., where he rose to assistant unit director over nearly eight years, showcasing his leadership skills and passion for customer service.

Despite his extensive work experience, Cory remained grounded in his roots, constantly looking for ways to advance his career while contributing meaningfully to his workplace. He was not only a valuable team member, but also someone who inspired those around him through his persistence and dedication.

Cory’s loss leaves a void in the hearts of his coworkers, friends, and family in Rockingham and beyond. He will be remembered not only for his contributions to the paper industry but also for his drive, loyalty, and kind spirit.
